    Eliguk Journal – May 23, 2019.

Alone in the wilderness once again! Something I actually look forward to, I mean everyone needs a break from each other - right? To spend time with your spouse 24/7, year after year...lol! I think you get the point. There's only so much love you can smother each other with, and it's nice to 'miss him' once in a while ;)... I know he feels the same way. Mountain Man should be gone for a total of 3 days, if all goes well. He's hauled the big trailer all the way out to civilization where he will pick up tin roofing to finish the Greenhouse and to put a new…

The Grizzly came back, not the very next day...the same day. Later in the afternoon, it tried to enter from the West side of the resort. The reason the dogs caught it so fast the first time was the wind bringing it's scent to them. This time the bear knew to go downwind and it came right into plain sight beside the middle cabins and was stalking (as Mountain Man was right there and observed his behavior). I knew the instant it was happening due to the dogs aggressive barking, so I ran from the cabin with the rifle - handing it off to MM. I couldn't believe the nerve…

Bacon, Eggs & Grizzly Bears. That's how the morning went. Sorry if I'm a little late with this mornings journal entry, lol! As the one liner goes, "It's never a boring day at Eliguk" - said by almost every guest who spends time with us here at the resort. I had just turned the laptop on to start the mornings entry when the dogs pounced off the porch barking aggressively. I watched them from my window at the table. They ran full speed and Stormy did his tell tale Australian Shepherd 4 legged leap & bounce like an ungulate Deer - he pounced 4 feet into the air on every…

I had a wonderful relaxing birthday - thank you so much for all the birthday wishes. We enjoyed a few beverages with Tequila, (mainly lemonade and Tequila, lol!) We enjoyed a fantastic Greek dinner, one of my personal favorites - and it's what I would have chosen if I had the opportunity to dine out. Yes, I had to cook - but Mountain Man baked the cake, remember? Plus we already discussed the mess that would be left if he had done much more than that. I made my Lemony Greek Potatoes, BBQ Chicken Souvlaki, Pork Tenderloin, Greek Salad and Tzatziki. We feasted! It’s such a relief to have another…

A day off to celebrate - the last year of my 40's. Apart from writing - which I thoroughly enjoy when I know there is nothing else to rush for. We had our first full day of rain, well mostly drizzle and mist with a tiny bit of real rain. I woke up with sunshine and a lakeside wilderness refreshed in Mother Nature's cleansing. Everything smells wonderful, the birds are singing, and I'm feeling quite like Snow White, (just wondering where all my little dwarfs are with my gemstones?) Anyhow, there was a miracle yesterday that I must share with you all. Are you ready? This is big,...and it's supposed…

Rusty & Eli Go To Freezer Camp They are Roosters, they lived a beautiful wilderness life for exactly a year. That's pretty lucky for a Rooster! Rusty had traded in his designer shoes & scarf for a hot rod, and started picking up the hens left & right. I was sad to see him change his ways and liked it when he wasn't interested in female's at all. This wasn't so bad until he started abusing and injuring them. Beating them up just because he felt like it. He would rip feathers out of the backs of their heads each time he mounted them. Something I don't tolerate. Since Eli…

Too hot for me. I know it's just a regular temperature for most folks - but my Eskimo self, says NO. I've always wanted to do one of those DNA tests to see what my true lineage is. I don't share many traits with relatives and have always been a black sheep. I just know I have no tolerance for anything over 25C (77F). I'm most comfortable at 15C (59F) for working and sleeping. Don't ask me how I will survive a Summer in the Greenhouse - I don't know yet! However, I will take time out to go sit in the Ice House, lol! It's the only air conditioned…

    Eliguk Journal – May 9, 2019.

It's all come at once! The drought, the heat and the mosquito's. Why can't Spring and Fall last longer? We get 6 months of Winter and I'd like the rest to be divided into Spring & Fall...I'd just skip Summer if it were up to me. Morning dock Zen time just became a number one priority. The sun is not burning hot yet at that time, and the mosquito's aren't up from their grassy dew filled hiding spots. I tended to my mini cold-frame and then made some honey rose nectar for the humming birds buzzing all about. I was in full work mode early. I was not in the…

Lets visit the dock first thing this morning, as it's my favorite thing to do. Before I get into writing I stroll down to the dock and spend some zen time connecting to everything that shares the wilderness with me. I breathe in the delicious scented lake and pines, and can recognize every single birds call singing around me. The swallows are here, that means the mosquito's are on the way. It's supposed to hit 28C (82.4F) this week. We've only had 2 days of precipitation out of the last 80 days. Highly unusual for Spring. It's predicted to be an even more disastrous fire season than the last few.…

In case you all want to escape the city to ‘run wild’ off the grid, let me enlighten you about the things most people won’t tell you about this way of life. This lifestyle doesn’t come without sacrifice. Sure it seems we are living the life so many people dream of, but could you actually do it? Could you give up so many things you are accustomed to having? We are only humble because we are more or less forced to be. Standards drop. Priorities are set aside. Personal hygiene takes a back seat. I swore I’d never let it happen. Not me! The longer I stay out in the…
