    Eliguk Journal – May 3, 2019.

Just because you move off grid doesn't automatically entitle you to any kind of privacy. Yes, I'm in the outhouse. Meet "Red". She's very outgoing. Follows me around, literally everywhere! No, I do not let her in the house - and it's not for the lack of her trying to get into the house, she even pecks on the door! But the outhouse is supposed to be "your" time. I keep the door open to the little log shack so I can have a view of the lake. (Plus, I have been known to lock myself in when I close the door and the latch closes.) When you have to…

Difference Between ‘Blog’ Page & ‘Eliguk Outpost’.

Do you know your way around the website yet? Have you figured out how to download free books to your laptop, tablet or Kindle device? The "Blog" page (yes, if you click that - it will take you there) has finally been loaded with our original story of our first trip to Eliguk 3 years ago. Not to be confused with this pages "Eliguk Outpost - Daily Journal" which is the present moment blog. I will be adding to the "Blog" page and carry on with our story from 3 years ago until it catches up with the present time. Understand, or is it confusing? I thought I'd best explain…

    Eliguk Journal – May 1, 2019.

Welcome to May! Before we get into the chaos of my life...lets take a moment to ZEN OUT with the dogs on the dock, and remind ourselves why people work this bloody hard to live this kind of life! It's all for these few moments in time. Just a quick note of thanks to everyone that had patience with me yesterday in getting through some downtime on the site due to a traffic spike. My website had to be moved to a larger server. I also want to mention that Will has a new post up in HoofWrangler Highlights - What Are The Odds? White Line Disease & Hoof Compression.…

HALF PRICE?? BIG NEWS For Eliguk Outpost Subscribers!

We slashed our annual subscription price in half! (Insert Happy Dance) We've worked out a great deal with our domain service provider and it's going to cost us a lot less annually, so naturally we wanted to reflect that in our subscription costs. I'm currently going through the painstaking task of PayPal edits to change the yearly rate. I could only do this for anyone that subscribed after April 5th. Your recurring payment is now set to $29.88(CAD) instead of $60.00(CAD). PayPal will not allow me to change a profile that is due to be processed within 72 hours. So naturally the payment will go through and I will send…

    Eliguk Journal – April 28, 2019.

How do you take your coffee? Warm, smooth and rich with a touch of lake and mountain, please. Throw in a couple jumping Trout and you've outdone yourself! Looks like we may be going to get the docks shortly, and put the boats in. It's going to be warm today. I sure am glad we got those 3 big piles of slash burned at the top of the driveway. It was wet and cold yesterday and it took all day to drag all the brush to the piles after the initial piles burned down some. That's how we eat when we both work outside all day. There's no gourmet anything!…

    Eliguk Journal – April 27, 2019.

Woke up to a cold nose & cheeks that were peeping outside of the big heavy comforter. It dropped to -4C (25F) overnight after (yet another) gusty windy day yesterday. The first glance outside revealed a blanket of white. Luckily, just an inch. But enough to get some slash burning done that really needs to be dealt with. Mountain Man thinks he has no luck because he's Irish (he thinks the world is silly by making up stuff like "Luck of the Irish".) It was always a struggle for his ancestors being treated like 3rd class citizens, the slavery, the potato famine - most of which bred heavy drinkers and…

    The Return of the Loon.

I lay in bed early this morning, stretching out my sore body and aching muscles of the tiring week behind me - stirring to all the new sounds. The Robin's, Finches, Red Winged Blackbirds and Geese all take turns letting us know they have arrived and are excited to be back at Eliguk Lake. Up the hill a Northern Flicker pecks on a steel drum we have over a chimney on one of the upper cabins. It sounds like machine gun fire, it makes me giggle. All these sounds are unique, but none so much for us as the Loon. We have a lone Loon hanging out on our shoreline…

    Eliguk Journal – April 25, 2019.

Turning Desolation Back to Paradise. It's not always going to be peace, love and light. Life is unpredictable. Journal entries won't always be uplifting & inspirational, we're only human...right? The day after the windstorm saw Mountain Man getting up, digging out our largest back-pack and heading out on the trail with axe in hand. We were lucky it only hovered around zero degrees overnight. Why? Because left at the Jeep was the groceries and supplies brought in the day before and abandoned with the Jeep. Hungry bears, and Pack Rats could re-decorate the vehicle. Plus, any colder and all the veggies brought in would be spoiled. Some people would have…

    Wind Storm ~ Aftermath

Paradise to Desolation Light wind gusts woke us at 4:30am Monday morning. Our alarm wasn't set to go off until 5:00am. Mountain Man was taking his buddy back to town to his parked vehicle. While there he was going to wait for the gas station to open to bring home a few extra Jerry cans of fuel and do a load of laundry at a friends house to make the trip worth while. The guys left at 6:00am and the skies were clear and the breeze was steady but nothing out of the ordinary. Their trip into town took 2.5 hours, and I expected him back shortly after noon. I…

    Eliguk Journal – April 22, 2019.

Some people dream of exotic things. Apparently I’m completely different from most people. I was dreaming that I was looking at grocery store flyers. Yes, shake your head…I’m with you…it’s crazy, right? My hands smoothed the full colored pages out on the table as my fingers pointed to all the pictures of available food and my eyes widened with each item I saw.  I gasped out loud at all the sales on food, fresh veggies and top cuts of quality meat.  It’s one thing to get junk mail, which I no longer do – and another thing to have a dream about looking through it in infinite detail! We only…
